Sources Of International Agreement
On the very homepage of the United Nations, there are excellent research guides that cover fundamental documents, international law and human rights, treaties, conventions and agreements are primary sources of international law. Below is a list of the main collections of paper and microform contracts, their chronological coverage and their means of research. This is followed by a list of the main websites containing a contractual text or state coverage. WorldLII`s International Treaties Collection (Open Access) contains the full texts of more than 60,000 treaties (30,000+ from the United Nations Collection) that can be consulted simultaneously. They are both multilateral and bilateral (many countries), in 27 databases from many sources and several LIPs. Nevertheless, the UN Charter clearly speaks of promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion (Article 1,3). The idea of promoting an international Bill of Rights was developed immediately afterwards and led to the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (EMAR) in 1948. Reference may be made to the decisions of international and communal tribunals and to the publications of scientists, not as a legal source as such, but as a means of recognition of the right defined in other sources. In practice, the International Court of Justice does not refer to national decisions, although it invokes its previous jurisprudence.
CIEMR and ICCPR are important international human rights instruments.
